All About me …
I am a life long learner. You will always find me on a course, learning more about what I love.
I have a BSc (Hons) in psychology. I have an Advanced Diploma in Relational Psychotherapeutic Counselling , I am a registered Advanced Dru Yoga teacher. Dru meditation teacher, Breathwork coach, Women’s circle facilitator, cacao carrier, trauma informed yoga therapist and published author.
My journey into psychotherapeutic counselling began in 2016. I have been working in private practice for counselling since January 2017 and I have been working for a local charity offering counselling services of referrals from a local GP surgery.
I began my yoga journey in 2013 after being referred by my physiotherapist to take up yoga to help me with my issues with my joints. I did wonder what I had let myself in for when I stood there for the first time, breathing through my feet! Then finally I got it, I really got it!
I was diagnosed with hypermobility issues. “Great!” I hear you say. “You are super bendy and can do yoga”, “it’s easy for you because you can get into the postures”. Well, it’s not like that, yes I am super bendy, yes I can get into the postures, however, the daily pain I once suffered because of this condition was horrific. every part of my body ached. I dislocated joints, my balance was shocking - I would fall over regularly, sprained ankles were the norm! Dru yoga has really helped me to gain physical strength. It allows me to use my own bodyweight to build that muscle. I am not injuring myself in a gym any longer. I also was working very long hours for an international corporate organisation. I was on the work treadmill and couldn’t get off. I was stressed and miserable. Dru yoga also helped me manage my stress, cleared my mind, and allowed me to make changes in my life as I now could think more clearly. Who knew I would find so much benefit in my life from just 90 minutes a week. Imagine what my daily practice is now doing for me.
I found that combining yoga practice and therapy was the perfect solution for me in my life.
I decided to train as a yoga teacher so that I could share the benefits that I had found, with others. I also wanted to share elements of yoga practice with my clients in therapy and realised that I can also share my therapy skills with my yoga teaching.
It has been a tough journey at times, the things that came up for me were enlightening. However, the physical benefits of yoga have also been immense. My physical strength is the best it has ever been. My aches and pains have all but gone. Don’t get me wrong, if I abuse my body I still get the aches and pains, but the level to which the general day to day aches and pains have reduced is amazing for me.
I added breathwork to my practices as I, like others can sometimes forget how to breathe efficiently and effectively. The joys of being able to work with the breath are immense.
As I grew as a yoga teacher and counsellor, I felt it was time to spend more time combining the two and I trained as a trauma informed yoga teacher, working somatically with each individual body, connecting mind and body from the disconnects we often find ourselves in. Growth comes in many ways and I felt a calling to work with women in particular. Finding that the joys of getting older as a woman brought with it such a lot of change. I created a course of celebrating the ageing process and then discovered the joy of women’s circles. The feeling of belonging and joining together with others. To discover we are not on our own with our thoughts and feelings is indeed a revelation. Ceremonial cacao and ritual play a big part in my life now and I want to share this with others.
I would love to see you at one of my classes, one of my women’s gatherings or to work on a 121 basis,I would also love to work with you in a therapeutic relationship, whether that is counselling or an holistic therapy. Come along and feel nurtured, relaxed, energised, and re vitalised. Big promises I know but you’ll never know if you don’t try it :-).
